Description: We are offering A wonderful large old 17th - 18th c wooden chest. These chests were originally handed down through generations of families,and given as a marriage or dowry chests. Judging from the construction, this chest is more than likely late 17th century construction.The date and the hand writing probably came at a later time. The chest has all original hand forged iron hardware and rose head nails. Hand forged Iron strap hinges, dovetailed corners, and a flat-top lid. The chest has a spring loaded crab lock that opens with its original key. This chest has early wood blocks applied to the bottom to protect from moisture. Dated "Ano 1766" and Initialed KAD Original lock works, due to age related wear the lid slightly sticks. Approx.
