James Hammond Trumbull (b. 20 Dec 1821; d. 5 Aug 1897, probably in Hartford County, CT) was an American scholar and Philologist. ‘Trumbull’ is one of the most famous names in the State of Connecticut, pre-dating the Revolutionary War. Mark Twain once wrote to Trumbull to ask him if an idea for a play had ever been used, to which Trumbull gave several examples.
