1940s floral rayon crepe dress with surplice bodice S bust 36" waist 27"

Description: Stunning 1940s rayon crepe dress with a beautiful multi-colour floral pattern on black. Features a pleated surplice bodice, full gored skirt, and short sleeves with slightly gathered sleeve headers and a pretty ruched detail at the cuff. Skirt is gathered into the waistband with two smocking panels at the front, and flares out toward the hem. Falls to approx. mid-calf. Pattern is a pretty bunch of flowers in blue, purple, magenta, pink, off-white, and bright green, on a beautiful silky rayon crepe. Has shoulder pads, pinked seams, and hem tape. Closes with a fine left side metal zipper. Appears to be skillfully homemade. Condition: very good. It has 5 tiny pin-size holes; all but one of these are on areas where the fabric is doubled and go through only one layer of material. There is one on the front right neckline, one on the upper back (the only one not on double layer of material), and 3 on the hemline. There is also a tiny worn spot on the hem edge. All of these are pictured. It has belt loops, but the belt is missing. It had a small open section on the right waist side seam, which I have repaired. Size: approximately a modern size small (based on waist size). This letter size is provided as a reference only. Please go by measurements, as this is the most accurate way to determine if a vintage garment will fit you. Keep in mind these are the measurements of the garment; the wearer should measure an inch or two smaller for optimum fit. Because of the surplice (crossover) style, the bust has quite a bit of give and could fit a bit larger.
