The coins in the photo may or may not be the coins you receive as I have more than one of these sets to sell. In 1979 the US mint released the first “small” dollar coins with the Susan B Anthony series after completing the large dollar Eisenhower series in 1978. The Susan B Anthony series was unpopular at the time with the coins derided as “Carter Quarters” due to their size being close to a quarter and therefore easily mixed up. The series was only produced from 1979 to 1981 and then again briefly in 1999 before giving way to the “golden” dollar Sacagawea coins which were meant to address the issues with the Susan B Anthony design. This set of proofs represents the three years of proof coinage from 1979 to 1981 for the Susan B Anthony series. There was no “S” proof in 1999, though the mint did release a “P” proof in 1999. Proofs minted in both 1979 and 1981 came with two varieties of mint marks. Type 1 mint marks are not as clear as the Type 2 mint marks and the Type 1 varieties in 1979 and 1981 are more common than the Type 2 varieties.
