Now, after 35 years this classic and popular coin is being updated with an enhanced obverse design and a brand new reverse! Like the original, this type 2 Gold Eagle is issued in 4 different sizes (1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz) and denominations ($50, $25, $10, $5). Also like the original, the obverse features a modified rendition of the famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens design that was used on U.S. twenty-dollar gold pieces from 1907-1933. However, thanks to technological advancements in the design and minting process, Liberty now encompasses some of Weinman's original details that were not previously possible! The new reverse was designed by artist Jennie Norris and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. It features an incredibly detailed, up close portrait of a bald eagle surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "IN GOD WE TRUST", "50 DOLLARS" and "1 OZ FINE GOLD".
