Description: Historic American Airlines Rockefeller Center folder, which may be dated to prior to April 1938, offering limousine service from Rockefeller Center to the airport. This folder, which is in remarkable condition for its age, measures 6 x 9 inches folded and then 9 x 12 inches when open. There is a quarter inch tear on the bottom edge and a half inch parting at the foot of the fold. Otherwise almost perfect. The text of the folder mentions "airport" many times but does not specify what airport. LaGuardia opened in 1939 but Newark was open before that. JFK had not even been thought of.Study of the aerial photograph on the front of the folder enables us to date the folder in the following ways;1.The covered truck delivery ramp is shown on the site where the Associated Press Building was built. The ramp was eventually under the Associated Press Building. Construction on the Associated Press Building began in April of 1938.2. The 6th Avenue El still existed and the El was demolished in 1939 - 40.3. There is a parking lot where the Eastern Airlines Building was built with construction completed in 1940. So, with a parking lot on the site, construction of the Eastern Airlines Building had not even begun.
