Description: Antique French Sterling Silver Mesh Purse, Two Compartments, Griffon, Lion, Acanthus This petite antique sterling silver mesh purse, an exquisite French creation, is beautifully woven of sterling silver mesh and has a small interior compartment. Both catches are in the form of two beads. The frame is engraved with a pattern of acanthus leaves along with a griffon on one side. There is a ring for hanging. This mesh purse bears six French “Boar’s Head” hallmarks used in Paris since 1838 and indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver for small objects. It also bears the word “déposé”. This piece is in very good condition with the exception of signs of normal age and use including a few missing links, not unusual for a mesh purse of this age.
