Description: Store Item: Antique New England Roxbury Style Tall Case Grandfather Clock Circa 1800 Federal Period Description: Fine example of a New England Roxbury Style Tall Case Clock made circa 1800. Cherry case that features the gain of the wood, bonnet with pierced fretwork joining three plinths supporting brass finials. Arched dial door flanked by fluted full columns with brass stop fluting. Paneled molded pendulum door. Sides of trunk with fluted quarter columns with brass caps and brass stop fluting. Pendulum door with base panel resting on ogee bracket feet. Original painted iron dial with four spandrel areas decorated with floral designs. 8 day brass movement with arch plates, a lunar calendar or moon phrase with moon, ship and cottage decoration is located in the arch of the dial. Also has a calendar wheel. Dial and intermediate plate marked Wilson, Birmingham. Clock includes weights, pendulum, key and winder. Wilson dials made in Birmingham England were typically used by early American Clock Makers including clocks made by Simon and Aaron Willard. Wilson dials were made between 1777 and 1809 and were considered excellent dials. Condition Report: Very Good Overall appearance. Wear consistent with age and use including replaced saddle board, feet, plinths and fret, fret breaks and repairs, refinished, loose molding where bonnet rests. The clock has not been tested and we do not guarantee the working conditions of clocks and highly recommend hiring a professional clock person to clean, service and install the clock after delivery.
