Description: Antique Thai Buddhist Votive Plaque…Sukhothai Style….Tin metal alloy 3-D relief Phra Leela, walking Buddha, with left hand held in Abhayamudra position signifying reassurance and safety and right hand at side known as the posture of Buddha in the descent from heavens. Provenance and age of this item is unknown. Research has revealed that during the 1957 excavation at Wat Ratchanaburana (built in 1424) more than a hundred thousand tin votive tablets were uncovered. To finance the building of the Chao Sam Phraya Museum, the votive tablets and other found artifacts were sold to the public. Mounted in mid century teak frame with silk and inlaid wood matting. The frame has slight damage on bottom corner molding, there is a small spot on the inner wood near the arch.
