Description: Genuine Antique WW1 Poster That Liberty Shall Not Perish Joseph Pennell 28” X 40” with Mailing Box used in 1940. This poster is authentic 1917 era original item. If it was laid flat and had the complete edge it would measure 28" x 40" which is the large full size version. Printed by Heywood Strasser & Voigt. It came in the flat cardboard box shown that was addressed to the manager of The South Weymouth Savings Bank from The Treasury Department mailed 1940 era. Lots of edge wear and small edge tears, chip missing top left corner, might be missing small edge chips, at least 1 small edge piece has come loose - see detailed photos. It comes in a 1940 era Treasury Department flat mailing box that is solid & sturdy enough to use again for mailing. I plan to mail this flat inside that same box. I absolute guarantee this is a genuine authentic 1917 era original and the full size version. Joseph Pennell (1857 - 1926) was active/lived in Pennsylvania, New York / United Kingdom. Joseph Pennell is known for Etching, illustration, painting and teaching.Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joseph Pennell became best known for his illustrations and etchings, a process he began in the late 1870s. He completed over 1800 etchings and lithographs, executed mostly in Europe before 1917. His style was strongly influenced by James Whistler, and his technique was influenced by drawings of Charles Reinhardt. He also wrote and illustrated nearly a hundred books including a biography of Whistler.Pennell was the son of Philadelphia Quaker parents and briefly attended the School of Industrial Design, now the Philadelphia College of Art. Between 1878 and 1880, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia where his instructor, James Claghorn recognized and encouraged Pennell's etching talent.In 1881, he went to Europe to meet with William Dean Howells, American writer, about illustrating some of Howells' Italian writings. Heywood, Strasser & Voigt Litho. Co. was a lithographic company in New York City that printed posters and other items.
