Description: Aurora, Italy's largest pen maker, was founded in Turin in 1919. Aurora began making celluloid plastic pens in 1925 and these pens, called the "Duplex", bore strong resemblance to the market leading Parker Duofold, having a black cap top and end cap and a ball-end washer . Reminiscent of the elegance and sobriety of the historic pen of the Thirties. A true legend in its time, the new Optima maintains its unique line and all of its charm to become, once again, a cult object for men and women who love fine pens. The barrel and cap are hand turned and highly polished. The barrel is then imprinted with the Aurora name. The cap has a wide gold plated Optima band engraved with "AURORA" and flanked by a Greek key design accented by two black lacquer stripes. The dark green auroloide used in this roller gives it a very unique style. Auroloide is a type of celluloid, or cellulose acetate, that is used by the Italian pen manufacturer Aurora in some of their products. Aurora is credited with reviving celluloid and reformulating it to be more stable and easier to manufacture than vintage celluloid, while still capturing its warmth and color. Auroloid is said to give pens a warmer feel and deeper color than classic celluloid, which is made from cellulose nitrate. A very nice contrast is created thanks to the combination of the green auroloide and the gold trims. This pen was part of my deceased husband’s personal collection. It has been well cared for and very gently used. It is in excellent pre-owned condition. It does not come with an ink refill.
