The father of the brand is Georges Ducommun, who was born in a small Swiss village, Le Locles. The young Georges became interested in watches very early on, and at the age of 12 he was hired by a watchmaker. In 1889 - at the age of 21 - the young man opened his own workshop, where he practiced all branches of watchmaking to his heart's content. He also handled the structures with a deft hand during repair, planning and design. Nothing exemplifies his conscientiousness better than the fact that he personally handed over all the watches he made to his customers. Ducommun's structures won gold medals at the World Exhibition in 1905 and 1906. By these years, his watches had already become known worldwide. Georges was also fond of cars, so whenever the opportunity arose, he had a garage built in his home in Le Locles, and a gas station next to it. His passion for cars brought him unexpected success, as in 1911 he received an order from a car factory, and in 1921 Bugatti signed a contract with him. From that year on, Doxa watches were added to their best-known racing car – the T35. In 1910, Ducommun decided to protect the Doxa brand name, and then, in addition to his impeccable pocket watches, he also started producing railway and travel watches. At that time, Ducommun's watches were already known worldwide and enjoyed great popularity. Its reputation was further enhanced by the fact that during World War I, several armies received dust-protected wristwatches with black dials. This was considered a great success because at that time pocket watches were more accepted. In the 1930s, he also produced impeccable quality chronographs. He continued his activities until his death in 1936. The head of Doxa was taken over by Jecques Nardin, the son of Ulysse Nardin, who is well-known in watchmaking circles, and who was also Ducommun's son-in-law. The new owner brought many innovations with him. In 1944, they released their first model with a date display, followed by countdown and seconds watches.
