Description: A thinly potted saucer with a nice deep, rich cobalt design of a large pine tree in the foreground and a cluster of bamboo, chrysanthemum, scholar rock, lingzhi fungus and fence in the background. A butterfly hovers over the flowers, and there is a cross hatch mouth rim border. The porcelain is almost translucent, and has been glazed with a bluish tinged glaze. The saucer has a shallow unglazed foot and a glazed base. The clay is white and refined. MEASUREMENTS 4 1/8” (10.5 cm) diameter x ¾” (1.9 cm) deep. Weighs 1.8 oz (50 g) CONDITION There are rim frits on the mouth rim. There appears to be a hairline in the central well; however this may have occurred during firing due to a kiln flaw that shows on both the front and back of the base in the same immediate area as the line. There is also a deep glaze flaw on the underside next to the foot rim. The glazes and paintings are generally fresh and shiny, although there is surface wear to the central well. The dish also has customary kiln flaws such as black spots and pin hole reserves. A delicate dish with wonderful detailed paintings in cobalt. It is an aged dish that will make a lovely addition to a display of blue and white.
