By 1945, the number of these volunteers had risen to over a million fighters. Almost every tenth Red Army soldier fought against the communist system as a Wehrmacht soldier. An event that is unique in the history of war and has hardly been appreciated to this day. The particularly oppressed Cossack peoples made up the largest contingent alongside the Russians. At the end of the war they even formed an army corps. The Cossacks in the Wehrmacht are particularly attractive in terms of uniforms. Political circumstances and war-related constraints resulted in an attractive variety of clothing and badges. Both Tsarist, Soviet and German uniforms and badges, including mixed ones, were worn. The traditional Cossack costume looked particularly picturesque. Numerous contemporary uniform pieces, headgear and uniform badges are depicted and described - in color, of course. The rank insignia and sleeve coats of arms are documented in detail. Separate chapters are dedicated to the Young Cossacks, flags and command signs, edged weapons, awards and propaganda material.
