Description: This is a rare and valuable set of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon. The books are beautifully bound in leather and feature illustrations by Gian Battista Piranesi. They were printed by Easton Press Norwalk Connecticut in 1974 and are in rather good condition. The set is a collector's edition and is perfect for history enthusiasts and collectors. The set includes all six books and is a must-have for anyone who loves history and collects rare books. The only overt issue with the quality of this set is the slight damage to the gilding over time as they where moved on and off the shelf at the previous owner's house. The pages themselves show zero damage. I believe volume 1 of this set was actively read at least once by the previous owner, meaning the volume 1 cover has a few small, superficial marks; there are no clear digs or scrapes to the leather aside from the small marks the set has earned over the last 50 years. I am the second lifetime owner of this set.
