Raised on 60's and 70's classic rock, reared with 80's new wave and 90's alternative, the trio remains influenced by modern rock but has certainly not forgotten the past (ie: the Beatles, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Journey, Foreigner, U2, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Cars, Duran Duran, The Cure, Fugazi, Nirvana, and Weezer, just to name a few). "Just great music," is the main focus as you can find an element of each of these bands in Voyageur's own style of melodic dance themes intertwined with catchy rock riffs. Stemming from other former outfits, Russell Vance (bass), Joseph Adkins (drums), and Robert Weil (guitar/vocals) have been writing and touring together since 1998. Voyageur started in the spring of 2004 upon resignation of former indie rock band Ahankara, carrying a 6-year tradition of independent releases and touring regionally with bands such as Hawthorne Heights (Victory Records), and also booking, promoting, and playing local shows with the likes of Q and Not U, El Guapo, Helicopter Helicopter, As Friends Rust, The Reputation, Tubring, Antelope, Unsung Zeros, and Measles Mumps Rubella. After a split EP via Datawaslost Records, with (fellow Cincinnati band) The Plural, the trio progressed and, having acknowledged their influences, took their songwriting to a more pop-sensible ambience. Retiring their band name and becoming Voyageur, the band released the 3 song ep, "Take a Ride," and toured the northeast region of the U.S. with A Study In Her (HonestInSecret Records) and Edie Sedgwick (Dischord Records).
