Description: WWI ERA FRENCH GRAS BAYONET ~ ST ETIENNE ARSENAL ~ 1876 DATED ~ESTATE ITEM Click to see full size image. Click to see full size image. To my bidders: For years I have done business on eBay using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives. This WWI Era French M1874 Gras Bayonet belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was found in his bayonet collection . This pre WWI Era French M1874 Gras bayonet is clean overall and is complete with it's scabbard (see photos). The bayonet's triangular shaped blade remains mostly bright overall and is lightly marked with arsenal markings to the spine (see photos). The markings indicate the St Etienne Arsenal and a date that appears to be 1876 (see photos). The blade remains un-sharpened and doesn't have a sharp edge (see photos). The blade ricasso is marked to one side with a couple standard proofs (see photos). The crossguard has nicely browned overall, is marked with some additional proofs and a serial number (see photos). The brass pommel has likewise pleasantly toned and is complete with a working spring loaded release button (see photos). Oil darkened wood grips are clean/tight/excellent and are secured with rivets (see photos). The bayonet scabbard is solid/excellent overall with no dings or dents (see photos). It retains most all of the original finish but it is beginning to brown overall (see photos). The frog retaining bracket remains solidly in place near the throat and has a serial number to one side (see photos). The serial number doesn't match the one on the crossguard (see photos). This pre WWI French Gras bayonet is complete overall and would be excellent for display. It is guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. Great piece for the blade collector that wants a clean very attractive French Gras bayonet.
