Description: 1985-1986 Full Set Rolex Daytona Ref 6263 “Big Red” History:For your consideration, one of the most coveted timepieces in all of watch collecting. Over the past two decades, vintage Rolex Daytonas have proven one of the best asset classes to invest in (of all asset classes). The lineage of the famed Reference 6xxx ends here, with the ultimate evolution of the hand wound chronograph. The Reference 6263 builds on the Ref, 6034, Ref. 6234, and Ref, 6239, creating beautiful, durable chronograph with water-tight screw-down pushers. Condition:The timepiece before is in fantastic condition for its age. Starting on top, the original bakelite bezel has survived nearly 40 years without being cracked or replaced. The original Mark 3 bezel is in wonderful condition, showing a minor scratch at the 58 marker, and is otherwise unblemished and retains crisp, clean, legible font throughout. These bezels were notorious for cracking during wear and esspecially service. The case contours are equally sharp, with no major dents, scratches, or dings anywhere on the case (a marvel, given these were a utility watch). The lugs present nice and thick, again an indication of minimal polishing / abuse. Adding to the wow factor of this watch, the timepiece comes fitted with its original Big Red Daytona dial. The Big Red has stood the test of time as the most iconic non-exotic variant of the 6xxx Daytonas. When these watches were serviced, the Big Red dial was often replaced with a “small red” dial. This watch retains its original Big Red dial, and has the gorgeous toning and depth to show for it. All lume plots, apart from 9 o’clock, are intact and beautifully patinated, matching the lume on the original hands. The subdial hands are in equally impressive condition with minor lossing on the 6 o’clock hand. The original bezel, dial, and hands make for a stunning visual. Service History:The timepiece has gone through a full inspection and runs beautifully. Speaking to the care and respect this watch has received over the decades, it comes with a $1,500 service receipt for an overhaul and pusher replacement, from April 2, 2013. The owner even kept the service pouch form Schmitt that the watch was returned in. I inspect all of my watches to run perfectly, and that includes the chronograph function. Often on vintage daytonas, you’ll notice misaligned chronograph hands from reset springs wearing with age. The chronograph runs and resets crisply – something even the highest end sellers will not test or fix. Everything has been tested for accuracy and performance. This watch will run flawlessly with no need for service for years to come.
