Over 100 years ago the family owned Solingen based knife maker Franz Guede invented the bread knife that revolutionised bread cutting. The knife blade is 12.5“ long and the overall length of this knife, that weighs a full pound, is more than 17 inches. The "Franz Güde" bread knife is THE BREAD KNIFE.Franz Güde is the inventor of the “Güde serrated blade”, a serrated blade with pointed teeth. A serrated blade with pointed teeth considerably increases the cutting ability and durability. The "Franz Güde" bread knife is available in several versions and special designs – including a Damascus steel version. In addition, this knife is also available in a left handed version. A right handed person would hold the bread loaf in his or her left hand and use the knife with the right hand. The knife is ground at an angle that allows the cut off slice to gently fall to the right side. The left handed version is ground inversly so that the slice falls to the left if the knife is used with your left hand. The knives are differentiated by the handle scale material. The classic Franz Güde knife has olive wood scales.
