Description: Stock printed by Goes. Uncanceled. Hillsboro is a city in Marion County, Kansas, with a population of 2,732 as of the 2020 census. It was named after John Hill, who settled in the area in 1871. The city is home to Tabor College, which was founded in 1908 by members of the Mennonite Brethren and Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Christian churches. In the late 19th century, the development of the Marion and McPherson Railway Company played a key role in the city's history. Established in 1878 and operated by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the branch line connected various towns, including Florence, Marion, Hillsboro, and McPherson. However, sections of the line were abandoned over time, with the portion from Marion through Hillsboro to McPherson being abandoned and removed after flood damage in 1993. Additionally, Hillsboro was located along the National Old Trails Road, also known as the Ocean-to-Ocean Highway, which was established in 1912 and passed through several Kansas towns, including Lehigh, Hillsboro, Marion, and Lost Springs.
