Originally published in 1818, these volumes were published in 1825 and 1826, and are the fourth (and corrected) edition. As you can see from the pictures, the bindings are intact. They are, however, somewhat brittle, due to the aging of the leather. They will need to be handled with care. The pages, as you can see from the pictures, are also discolored , there does not seem to be any water damage, or any markings in these volumes. Pages all seem to be present, along with all of the fold out maps and charts. They are a truly beautiful set, a true collectors item. This work went through at least 11 printing, at least one of which was in the 21st century, attesting to its enduring value as a piece of scholarship. Thomas Hartwell Horne was a librarian for the British library who was accepted into the Anglican priesthood on the basis of this work, a very unusual situation.
