Description: Dinesen, Isak (Blixen, Karen) - Out of Africa - Random House: New York, 1938 - First Edition / First Printing - “First Edition” stated on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. “Africa, amongst the continents, will teach it to you: that God and the Devil are one, the majesty coeternal, not two uncreated but one uncreated, and the Natives neither confounded the persons nor divided the substance.” The book has minor shelf wear but the boards are very bright and straight, the binding is square but cracked before the title page, and internally the text block is clean. A nicer than typical example of the boards. The dust jacket is edge worn with some light sunning, staining to the rear panel and a chip to the top of the spine. The spine is much less darkened than normal. A very solid example of the Danish author’s most well known work. Spanning the course of seventeen years she spent on a coffee plantation in what is now Kenya. Basis for the wonderful 1985 film adaptation of the same title which starred Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. This adaptation would be nominated for eleven Oscars and would win seven including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director statues. All books are offered with a full 30 day postage paid return policy. All books which are in dust jackets will be mailed with a clear archival dust jacket protector fitted. Shipping costs can be combined if multiple purchases are made. Items will be packaged and shipped within one business day unless otherwise noted.
