Description: Japanese Medic Wound-Tag Booklet; WW II; Partially Used, Some Staining; DISCOUNTED FROM $698; Now $598; Free S/H. I decided to NOT take it apart to offer single tags although I've seen them sell faster that way because of the lower cost per item. My personal feeling and belief is that most very serious collectors want an item as complete as it comes, along with any historical data and info (don't mess with the item; don't try to clean it; don't tape up tears; don't try to be cute with embellishments because a smart collector knows fakery when they see it!). I purchased this from an elderly US Navy Officer back in the 1980's (on his pension he could use the money). He had served in WW II AND Korea. He's been dead for years now. I wish I had bothered to learn from him where he got it (or maybe it's better for me I DON'T know!). Some tags have been removed (not by me). It's eerie to think they could have been pulled and attached to a wounded or dying Japanese soldier, then, later on, a GI captured or 'popped' the medic, confiscating the booklet and other papers, ID, maps, etc. The booklet shows expected age, some stains (water or saki, not blood!). The attachment strings are good and strong. There's a total of TEN tags inside the cover. Photos show what is offered to you. I believe the top Kanji character on the cover stands for "WOUND" and a portion of the second character stands for "INSTRUCTION." I've read that the medic was to tie a filled-in tag onto the body, as close as possible to the wound(s). (The tenaciousness of the Japanese soldier to DIE-for-their-Emperor would expect us to find LOTS of unused booklets of wound-tags since dead soldiers did NOT need a wound tag! Either way, I can't even imagine the Japanese having ANY FREE TIME to tag the dead after a battle. Hell, there was no one left afterward to apply ANY tags except unwounded US/Allied ground forces; sad for them but good for us! PayPal payment is requested but will accept personal check (with eventual bank clearance) or certified check.FREE domestic shipping.
