Description: A large Greek South Italian Gnathian ware black glazed oinochoe with a stylized lion's head on the spout. The vessel is decorated around the neck with ivy tendril pattern, and typical grooved patterning around-the belly. The oinochoe has a wide trefoil mouth and single handle. The area just above the foot is reserved. Apulia, southern Italy: 4th century BC. Height 23.5 cms (9.25 ins). Condition: Complete and intact a few minor bumps and scrapes.
