Description: THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES by Lawrence Ritter Fourth printing published in 1966 by MacMillan This listing consists of a 58 year old hardback book, plus a 3" by 4" piece of paper that has the author's signature. The autographed paper is enclosed within a clear plastic sleeve. If you wish, you could glue the autograph to the inside cover of the book. I have been reading baseball books for more than fifty years, and I want to say here that THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES is the single best baseball book I have ever read (not including books that are primarily of a statistical nature), and I have read well over one hundred baseball books. This book is a compilation of interviews that Lawrence Ritter (1922-2004) did in the 1960s with 22 old-timers as they looked back on their lives and on their careers in baseball (see the images for a list of the interviewees). This book is a jewel to anyone who is interested in baseball as it was played from the 1890s to the 1930s. And it is one of the few baseball books that would be compelling reading for someone who is NOT a baseball fan, as long as they have a strong interest in American history, and in the details of day to day life in the United States of those times. This is a hardback book, about 10" by 7", 300 pages, with dozens of b/w photos. The book is in good condition, with some general wear. The dustjacket is missing. Shipping within the USA is FREE via USPS Media Mail, or $4.00 via Priority Mail. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
