Leucadendron argenteum Plant - Silver Tree - Rare in Cultivation!!

Description: Leucadendron argenteum(Silver Tree) PLEASE NOTE - PROTEAS AND THEIR RELATIVES ARE DIFFICULT PLANTS TO GROW AND MAINTAIN. THE YOUNG PLANTS I AM SELLING ARE IN PERFECT CONDITION AND HEALTH AT THE TIME OF SHIPPING. I ONLY GUARANTEE SAFE ARRIVAL - BUT OFFER NO GUARANTEE FOR THEIR SURVIVAL. There is almost no lovelier sight than the silvery leaves of the Silver Tree rippling and shimmering in a breeze. With a wide natural distribution in winter rainfall areas of South Africa, this beautiful tree will grow to heights of 20 to 25 feet. The young trees are the most decorative, and offer upright branches that are thickly covered with overlapping greyish-green leaves that are covered with fine, silvery hairs that catch the light. Requiring excellent drainage in full sun, it will tolerate some coastal wind. Pinching out the growing tip will encourage bushier growth. Flowers are either male or female, and are born on separate plants (dioecious); males are fluffy, pollen-bearing, 1 1/2" pompons, and females are silvery cones that are tucked in leaves that take on a yellow cast. Hardy to zone 9, and needs to be protected from hard frosts for the first couple of years. Deer resistant. Not suitable for growing in pots. Requires excellent air movement - will even tolerate coastal wind. PLEASE NOTE: THIS SPECIES IS VERY TEMPERAMENTAL. The silver foliage will become more prominent as the seedlings mature. The family name, Proteaceae, honors the Greek Sea God, Proteus, who had the power to assume a great diversity of shapes - a reference to the diversity within this wonderful genus. This offer is for one, small, first year seedling, in a 2" x 7" tube pot. Ready for transplanting into a gallon pot (for a season), or directly into the garden (preferred). The new year's growth is starting to show, or is already underway. The Seedlings shipped will vary in size from 3" to 6+" tall, depending on the species. Detailed growing instructions are included. As the plants are grown unprotected outdoors, some of the leaves may show a few blemishes or nibbles, and the leaves may take on some maroon tints in the winter and early spring. All photos are of plants among my collection, unless stated otherwise. The last photo shows a batch of various seedlings and variation in heights of seedlings, which is dependent on species. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING - SORRY - I ONLY SHIP TO THE US. I do combine shipping for multiple items - please request a new shipping total before checking out.
