The date of organization was November 16, 1901. The company was owned by the Little River Lumber Company but operated as a separate corporation. The railroad extended from Walland to Forks, TN, 11.065 miles, of which 8.051 miles, from Walland to Townsend, TN, were operated by the Little River Railroad and 3.014 miles, from Townsend to Forks, TN, were leased to the Little River Lumber Company. The railroad was constructed under contract by Condon & Parks, contractors, of Knoxville, TN. Construction work began in January 1902 and was completed in March 1903. The section from Walland to Townsend, about 8 miles, was opened for traffic on January 1, 1903, and the segment from Townsend to Forks, about 3 miles, was opened in March 1903. The latter portion was operated from that time onward by the Little River Lumber Company. The Little River Railroad applied to the ICC on October 2, 1939, to abandon its 11 miles of railroad and was granted permission on December 11, 1939. Actual abandonment occurred in April 1940.
