About Michele Badets:In Tourrettes-sur-Loup, the Arachnée workshop folds its canvas.Installed in the village for 40 years, the weaver Michèle Badets will return to her Bordeaux region at the end of the year with her looms. In the heart of the old village, at number 8 Grand'Rue, and for forty years, the weaver Michèle Badets has been weaving wool, linen, silk and cotton in her Arachnée workshop. “I even wove nettle and bamboo thread,” confides this craftswoman who sells her creations in shimmering colors in her shop next to the workshop. At the time of definitively closing shop and returning to her hometown near Bordeaux, she remembers: “I arrived in Tourrettes-sur-Loup in the 1970s with my young son. There were several weavers in the village, mostly from Paris. They had left the capital following May 68.At the time, the town had many craftsmen-artists but few, in the end, remained for more than a few years. Me, little by little, I made my way. I work in unique pieces and my creations can be found in many countries.Capes, scarves, tunics, plaids, bolero jackets, waistcoats, shawls, caps and even curtains, the weaver has golden fingers. She has even been approached by creators of haute couture houses as her fabrics are sometimes amazing.She also likes to weave the wool of Tourrettes sheep. Visitors are then charmed by his 100% Tourrettan creations! "Weaving goes back to the dawn of time, thanks to it, Man left his animal skin," she explains. For 250 years, weaving has been mechanized and, although hand weaving is losing momentum, it remains attractive because it has an immutable know-how.
