Description: This is a true first edition, first printing of Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1952. With the letter A and The Scribner Press seal on the copyright page. Light blue cloth boards with silver spine lettering. Dust jacket is original and not a facsimile. Condition: Book is in Good condition, dust jacket is Fair. This book is from an estate and apparently suffered slight water damage at some point in time. There is a faint water stain along the fore edge of the text block extending 1/4” to 1/2” along the page and the pages have faint warping as a result. There are what appear to be small white water drops on the fore edge of each board, and a slightly discolored/darkened area can be seen along the fore edge in the same spot. There is a slight musty smell to the book, although I would not judge it to be particularly strong. The jacket is in vintage Gaylord Mylar which I have not attempted to remove in case of further damage. It is price-clipped with a 1” closed tear to the bottom edge of the front panel and associated small chips, all of which can be seen in the images. The spine is slightly tanned. There is a slightly darkened old water stain along the fore edge which can be seen most prominently on the front panel. Accompanying this is white splotching which may be mold. The book is being sold as-is due to these defects. Please consult images before buying or bidding, as returns will not be accepted.
