The Oyster Shanty was built in the 1890's and was in active use for over sixty years. The Pairpoint Glass cup plate was commissioned by the Osterville Historical Society, and designed/engraved by Andrew Bouboin. I have seen some great photos/paintings of the Oyster Shanty, and think this cup plate design nicely captures its beauty. Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press. This manufacturing process results in cup plates that are similar yet possess their own distinctive characteristics. Look closely and you'll find the artisan's initials and the Pairpoint trademark within the design.
