Description: Oxalis convexula is a winter-growing Oxalis from the Western Cape, South Africa with rosettes of succulent leaves dotted with water clear storage cells that gives the leaves a cool, bumpy texture. Mature bulbs bear large, salmon-colored flowers in winter. In late spring, it produces masses of small 1-2 mm bulbils in the leaf axils. When temperatures rise, it will dry up and go dormant; keeping it cool may prolong growth. Do not water during dormancy, but Oxalis bulbs need to experience the heat of summer, and decreasing temperatures in the fall to break dormancy. The bulbs will eventually sprout spontaneously, even without water, but can be encouraged with light watering. 20+ bulbils from 2024. Plant the tiny bulbils in the fall or early winter, when night temperatures drop below 50-60 F, and water lightly until they sprout. They will grow slowly the first winter, leaving behind larger bulbs for the next year. The soil mix should be well-drained and at least 50% mineral (perlite, pumice, or lava and sand/loam are good additives). The bulbils should be viable until about December, but must be planted soon after they start to sprout. Since I cannot control the techniques and growing conditions used, I cannot warranty them. However, I try to provide instructions to maximize your success, and hope that these plants grow well for you! I offer free shipping on additional purchases, so feel free to check out my other items.
