Description: Offering a RARE Polychrome Lustre Jug; Chinoiserie Vase and Flowers; "Jeddo" Pattern J&M and B&Co. I LOVE the eagle and snake on this piece; Don't Tread On Me ! Other than that, it's just a beautiful piece with the bold vase and florals. It's a substantial piece, too; ironstone and that's probably why it's still here after all these years. It was made circa 1860 in Glasgow, Scotland by the Forth and Clyde Canal by the Bell Brothers. Their sturdy pieces were made for middle class families from the West of Scotland, but were soon exported worldwide. The pottery closed in 1910 and later used the marks J. & M.P.B. & Co., J. & M.P.Bell & Co, JB (inside a bell, impressed), J. & M.P.B. & Co.Ld. or B (inside a bell). I've only found one other similar to this one with the earliest mark, but not nearly as pretty, in a museum. I can find no flaws but tiny crazing under magnification, a tiny chip to the lip and a few paint misses. There is a tiny factory flaw under the handle. It measures 5.5" by 8.5". Overall, a nice bright piece. Sorry for the shipping price, but it's heavy and I will pack it really well.
