Written by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, this softcover edition published by Hal Leonard Corporation includes all the necessary lyrics and piano accompaniment for an intermediate player to enjoy. The ensemble is SATB and the instrument is piano, making it a perfect addition to any musician's collection. This vintage and antique sheet music is a true gem for those who appreciate the artistry of musicals. BROADWAY SCRIPT The Broadway Play Script is also included in this set. The score and script complement a collector's library and are a rare find as a set. The play was influenced by the drafting of Elvis Presley into the Army in 1957. The stage musical was based on a book by Michael Stewart. The famous Dick Van Dyke, star and comedian of the Dick Van Dyke Show, stars as Albert Peterson. The first Performance was held at the Martin Beck Theatre, New York, on April 14th, 1960. ABOUT THE SCORE CONDITION AND HISTORY The score was used in a performance by the Youth Theatre at the Marlboro High School Auditorium in 1966. The score has penciled notations by Nancy Barrett, AKA Nanisi Barrett D'Arnuk, a renowned pianist who performed with jazz greats, Desi Glispie, Mary Lou Williams, and Carmen McRae. Ms. Barrett lived in, Massachusetts, New York, Washington State, and Oklahoma for the final 25 years. She shared her history of performances with me as I cared for her during her struggles with Multiple Sclerosis. MS took her away from the piano in 1995 where she turned to the love of writing. Having authored 35 mysteries, short stories, and tales published before she died in 2023, her collection of historical memorabilia was meant to be shared with those who love classics. This work should go to someone who cherishes history, memories, and Broadway. The script also contains the director's notations in light pencil. Pencil notations show the hard work put into production. Noted changes in scenery, character parts, and music introductions give this historic piece a nostalgic memory of Broadway plays transformed to be performed by high schools throughout the country in the 1960s, a time when play production was a part of learning to express oneself in character while intertwining literature, history, music, and dramatic study.
