Description: a recent estate find.. An actual original program to the attraction / exhibition known as : CYCLORAMA : THE BATTLES OF VICKSBURG MAY 22nd, 1863.This opened in New York City in 1886 and later played in San Francisco and Milwaukee. There were a total of seven different Civil War Cycloramas which were very popular in their day. They caused quite a sensation, sort of like Virtual Reality now or the beginning of Cinema. It was a huge production number and had to have a special cylindrical building built to display it. It consisted of giant painted canvas hung in a panorama which was abutted by a tactile foreground of props -fortification elements, battle debris, plants and dirt. The painting was done by the French artists Joseph Bertrand and Lucien Sergent. The Cyclorama was a sensation when it opened but also caused a bit of controversy as well. The original painting has been lost to time and programs and other ephemera from this Cyclorama is quite rare indeed.
