Description: Let’s face it. Jazz Bass single-coil pickups hum, except when canceling each other out. Double humbuckers, however, haven’t often let bassists down. Let’s smell the coffee. Whether you’re a 4-string or 5-string guy, it can’t be denied that the sophisticated player of many different styles recognizes that there is use for a fifth string… in fact, many prefer it. Let’s get real. Looks are not what make a bass. However, the quilted maple top of Schecter’s Raiden Special-5, along with that transparent coloring, make it an attractive instrument. This bass acts like a Jazz Bass, with each pickup having it’s own volume knob, and then a master tone knob to roll up the overall tone of the bass. The sound you’ll get, however, is much fatter than that of a Jazz, because each pickup is a stacked humbucker - the equivalent of two Jazz single-coils put together. I suspect that the front pickup will sound similar to that of a Precision Bass, and that the back pickup will sound similar to a Musicman bass. The two together will likely produce a very beastly sound, that can be articulated fabulously with flats or rounds. This bass can also sound like a Jazz Bass, because the most beautiful thing about this bass is that you have the ability to split the pickups into single-coils, giving you a ton more tonal options! Schecter is known for making some great active basses. But in the battle of active vs. passive, the Raiden Special-5 gives a passive alternative to the other well-known Schecter models. The Shecter Diamond SuperRock Bass Pickups will give you plenty of power, and that low B string will give you fantastic flexibility with your tonal choices. This is an affordable bass that won’t disappoint you.
