Reborn Baby Doll “Flossie” by Donna Rubert

Description: This is Donna Ruberts Flossie I bought kit from Bountiful Baby. I have hand rooted her hair with mohair I dyed myself. I listed it as red but is more like a strawberry blonde. She has blue acrylic eyes, mottled skin, veining, white fingertips all painted with genesis heat set paints. Eyelashes and eyebrows I hand paint I’ve found they look more natural than rooted ones. Ive added a touch of gloss to areas around nose, inner ear, mouth, and eyes. I have added baby powder scented wafers. I’ve switched to more of a water based glue for inside of the head. The E6000 has strong fumes and it’s been seeping through the heads of the last two dolls I made. Which left their hair a sticky mess. I have left her hair longer than a baby of her size (16”) because I wanted a ponytail option. Hair is hand rooted and styled. She’s also weighted with premium glass beads, making her appx 4lbs. Also her head has some tilt to it like a really baby. Especially when you cradle her. Her arms also have mobility. She’s 3/4 limbs so most preemie clothes look great. In these photos her hair was styled wet. Also if you are familiar with Donna Rubert you might recognize that she used “Drew Ann” ‘s legs (folded) in the Flossie kit. They are super magnets inside the head and on the pacifier. That makes this baby unsuitable for small children. Not only would they be a choking hazard but super magnets cause grave damage if swallowed. My reborn babies are lower than some for one main reason I’m still learning and perfecting my techniques. Occasionally paint will show up where I hadn’t intended. That usually occurs after it’s been heat set. I will point out all areas with pictures or I’ll verbally highlight. This gives you a chance to see everything up front before you commit. With hand painted babies a flaw can sometimes be very enhancing to the character of the baby. I’ve been making these babies for 4 years now. Flossie is the 21st baby I’ve made. My daughter has the first 14 😆 I continue to get better with each baby I make. My costs are to cover the kits which vary from $49+ 100 and more. The kit doesn’t include the body, the eyes, the hair, the paints, fillers, clothes, accessories and etc. I’m really not charging much for labor as this is a learning experience for me. I recently switched for Flossie a much finer needle which improves the rooting and makes less “plugs” (multiple hairs in a pore) Her hair looks a lot more natural. I wasn’t too crazy with this particular mohair I used. I had to dye by hand. It’s very soft but I feel like no matter how I style it stays wavy. My painting techniques are my best work but run into issues with blushing. There may have been some seepage by fingers or toes. Still a vast improvement.
