Description: This listing is for a genuine coal fragment from the wreck of the RMS Titanic. When the ship broke apart as she sank, several tons of coal were spilled from the wreck and scattered across the debris field. A portion of that coal (including this piece) was recovered from the wreck in 1994 by RMS Titanic Incorporated - the company granted sole salvage rights to the wreck of the Titanic. This particular piece is from the collection of Dik Barton, the Vice President of Operations for RMS Titanic Incorporated. Barton was instrumental in recovering artifacts, diving to the wreck 22 times during their salvage missions. In 2020, Barton partnered with White Star Memories to release a Limited Edition of 401 coal pieces from his personal collection. The fragments in this display were taken from fragment # 229. A Certificate of Authenticity is included, which contains photos of Barton's signed COA, along with the original coal piece being converted into the smaller fragment displays. The coal fragments have been encased in clear resin for long-term preservation, and then attached to an 8x10" photo for display. Please note that the resin does contain bubbles and coal dust, so it's not perfectly clear. The winner will receive the exact item in the photos, so please refer to those for a closer look. Thank you for viewing this listing!
