Description: For your consideration is a SPECIAL PAIR OF GUINOMIES BY TATSUZO SHIMAOKA (1911 - 2007), former Japanese Living National Treasure. These are from the collection of Martha Longenecker who was the founder of the Mingei Museum in San Diego, California. Ms. Longenecker often traveled to Mashiko to meet with Shimaoka and may have received these directly from him. They are pictured on page 39 of the Mingei Museum's publication 'Ceramics of Shimaoka Tatsuzo' (see photos 3, 4 and 5). My photo #2 was taken with the Guinomi in the same orientation as book photo #5 and, although subtle, it is fairly easy to match the glaze patterns for verification. The Jogon Zogan Rope Impression design is what I refer to as 'Perpetual Diagonal' and is one of four frequently used patterns by Shimaoka. They are perfect condition and there are no chips or cracks. They are not signed but authentication is provided by the book. I have left the original Longenecker Estate Auction stickers on the foot. The dimensions are 2 3/8 inches(D) x 1 3/4 inches(H). I will be listing two other Guinomi from the same Longenecker collection although not shown in the book. (I have included some photos of some of my other listings showing work by Shimaoka, David Leach, David Cuzick and William Chappelow). (B - 132)
