Description: Beautiful c. 1920 Hamilton 13” parlor guitar, appears to be solid birch. Note the 10th-fret marker, which puts this one pretty early in the 20th century. Black finish with two floral decals, and pearloid fretboard and headstock overlay. Guitar is in excellent condition throughout. I got this as a clean condition husk, and just added all the appropriate parts: perfect fit period-correct tuners, bone saddle, solid wood pegs with pearloid inserts, and a cool c. 1940s (?) grey tweed soft shell case. Everything is structurally tight, and the action is comfortable IF you keep the tension light (uber-light strings and E-flat or even D). There is a little bit of top tilt and curvature behind the bridge, but the overall height is not lifting (again, light strings and dropped tuning please). Finish is solid, with only modest playing and handling wear. Top finish has lightened a bit to a charcoal grey patina. Avoid too much contact with the finish, as it smudges and smears easily. Hit it now and then with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a lemon-oil polish. Nothing else… Pearloid is in great shape, although fretboard is slightly cupped out over the body. No effect on playing. It sports silk-and-steels in some of my pics, but I restrung it with an uber-light set of bronze-wound that I put together (18 – 42 gages for the wound strings). Surprisingly toneful and projecting, especially considering its small size. Intonation is also excellent, which is not common in older parlors. This is a Canadian axe BTW. A little research turns up that this “Hamilton” was made by Whaley, Royce, and Co. in Toronto. Cool, eh? Looks Harmony-ish, so maybe under their license? NOTE: USA regulations under the CITES convention (trade in endangered species) have finally been loosened to allow easy international shipping of vintage instruments, unless they contain BRAZILIAN r******d (Dahlbergia nigra). Fortunately, there is no r******d on this guitar, so it can now be shipped internationally.UPDATE: Ebay now demands that we sellers give THIRTY DAYS for returns. Any honest buyer will know within a few days whether there is any need for a return. I no longer take returns through Ebay, but I will never "stick" another musician with a guitar. Please contact me if there any problems, and we'll work it out.
