Description: Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare and unique 1930's era Toledo brand carbon microphone made in the U.S.A. This was a very common design for it's time and is what I would call a medium sized spring mic and built like a tank. This classic style of microphone was made by several American companies before disappearing altogether around the mid 1940's. This was a general broadcasting microphone and was often used for singing. It comes with the period ring, springs an original (very rare) Toledo desk stand. I don't have any older catalogs showing this model of mic but you can probably find some type of literature online. I believe this is a Toledo 35 model but it might be a 6 model as well. There are two stamps of a 6 & 35 on the mic. Not sure which one represents the model number? When these early carbon spring mics were first sold these were almost always sold as kits where the buyer would have to assemble the mic itself. It wasn't until about the late 1920's that these were sold pre assembled. I believe Shure Brothers was the first to do so? Back in the 1920's your only choice of mics were that of Carbon and ribbon mics. The Carbon mics were pretty much phased out by the 1940's with a few exceptions. I should note that the mic has not been tested. It's 100% original but the working condition is unknown? Lets just assume it no longer works or is so weak it cannot be used reliably. These do hold up pretty well though so you just never know. This spring mic is in very good overall physical condition as seen in the pictures provided despite the typical lite physical wear. Just some lite tarnish on the metal components. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. It has all of it's original components including the screws. I would rate the physical overall condition a very conservative 7 on a scale of 1 -10 though some would rate higher. The actual mic body is 3 inches across (hook to hook 3 3/4 inches wide) X 1 inches deep. The mic comes with 8 original springs that show wear but have plenty of tension and work excellent. Many of these spring mics are sold with new springs but these ones are original. The metal ring is also period and in excellent shape with original black paint. No fractures and the hooks are perfect. It can screw onto any desk or floor stand though a period desk stand is provided. The ring is very thick and well built. The desk stand is an all metal design that is hollow inside. Lite weight but sturdy. The base has a classic deco style and original to the mic. This stand is so rare that I have never even seen this style before and is a bit more complex than the typical stand. It makes for a very stable platform and allows the user to run the wires for the mic into the base and out the bottom side. You can gain access to the inside of the base via 4 screws on the bezel of the top of the base. The base shows almost no wear at all and has the original paint. It also has the felt pad that that in very good condition. The dimensions of the stand and ring are appx 11 inches tall X 7 inches wide and it weighs roughly 2 1/2 pounds. If you demand unique and nice for that special mic collection...this Toledo mic will not disappoint. And as always... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period.
