After moving to Colorado in 1884 at the age of 14 he spent the remainder of his life traveling throughout the Rocky Mountains, and establishing Longs Peak House, a summer place considered the Roycroft of the Rocky Mountains. At age 15, Mills made his first ascent of Longs Peak (14,259 feet) and over the course of his life time he made the trip 40 times by himself and nearly 300 additional times as a guide. “Wild Life on the Rockies” was Mills first book which he dedicated to John Muir. Henry Oscar Houghton founded Riverside Press in 1852 and in 1872 admitted George Mifflin to the partnership and renamed the firm Houghton, Mifflin & Company. Riverside became known on account of the typographic, stylistic, artistic components of its work and in 1895 Mifflin capitalize on Riversides reputation for quality production by releasing elaborate editions. By 1971, the original Riverside Press was closed after 120 years of continuous operation in Cambridge.
