Description: This is an extremely fine and very scarce World War II 20th Anniversary of the RKKA meal on an original 1st type suspension that remains in excellent condition. The round planchet is constructed of sterling silver with a radiated red enamel star in the center and the Roman numeral ‘XX’ at the base on the obverse side. The reverse depicts a Soviet soldier in a great coat aiming his rifle and with the dated ‘1918-1938’ to the right. The medal is suspended from the original type 1 small, screw back red ribbon bar with screw plate that is manufacturer marked and numbered, ‘2989’. This is a very scarce piece being the first medal awarded to military officers after the October Revolution of 1917 and to those who had survived the culling of the military officer corps by Stalin after he came to power in 1924 following the death of Lenin. The very low number enhances the desirability and value of the medal even more. It remains in excellent and undamaged condition. 8944
