Description: Gentlemen, Offered here is this extremely scarce U.S.N. Deck Hook jacket. It was originally designed for the use of Navy personnel on shore operations during WWII. Introduced in 1943, the Deck Hook Jacket replaced its predecessor, the Deck Zip Jacket. This earlier version came with a front zipper, which frequently froze in cold winter and was difficult to operate with gloves. The newer version featured a hook system for closure, addressing the issues of the previous design. This improved Deck Jacket also featured silver stenciling on the upper back, displaying the identification text “U. S. NAVY” in block letters, unlike the earlier jackets it replaced. This latter modification was to avoid Navy personnel on shore operations being mistaken as enemy troops by other U.S. Forces. Throughout WWII, the Hook Deck jacket became an iconic symbol of U.S. Navy operations worldwide, and since then, it is a highly coveted piece among collectors. This particular model was only produced for one year, making it rare to find in any condition. The grade of preservation of this example is unbelievable, considering it is 80 years old. All parts are original and fully functional. Adding that to the fact that it is a generous size 44, makes this piece hard to upgrade. This is a one-of-a-kind chance to own an original example in wearable condition.
