About the Author Yoshitomo Nara Born in 1959 in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture. In 1987, he completed his master's degree at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts. In 1988, he moved to Germany and enrolled at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. He studied under A.R. Penck and obtained the Meisterschuler certificate. From 1994 to 2000, he worked in Cologne. In 1998, he was appointed visiting professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for three months. In 2000, he returned to Japan and relocated his base of operations to Japan.
